A Lifelong Love of Learning

Professional Cook

I have cooked professionally on two separate occasions, the first time in 1989, I took time off to work on the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Cleanup, working as a cook and deckhand on a 52 foot salmon seiner, under contract to Exxon, assigned to a SCAT team, a Shore Cleanup and Assessment Team, (a SCAT Team was composed of representatives from the US Coast Guard, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, and representatives with the National Park Service and the US and Fish and Wildlife Service.)

The second time I was engaged to cook professionally was on a 110 foot vessel as part of a commercial gold-dredging operation, cooking for a crew of six, on a voyage from Seattle to Nome Alaska and back. Both positions required me to do the purchasing, provisioning, and preparation of all the meals for the various crews.

Health and Fitness

I have a lifelong love of learning, and acquiring new and different skill sets; I have one hundred hours of training in Thai Yoga Massage from the Alaska Institute of Oriental medicine, Acupuncture & Massage Therapy.

I have also served as an amateur personal trainer, training my friends toward better health.

Advocate for Companion Animals

In addition to serving on the Anchorage Municipal Animal Control Advisory Committee, the official body charged with animal control regulations in Anchorage Alaska, I have adopted and cared for 10 different dogs that other people didn’t want or couldn’t afford; Shadow, Sierra, Maddie, Bonnie, Archie, Charlie, Sophie, Bligh, Cisco, and my current friend, Amanda.

Working with Anchorage Assembly Chairman Dick Traini, helped bring designated dog parks to Anchorage. Chairman Traini is an unsung hero to dogs and their owners in Anchorage Alaska.

I am a current board member of the Roscoe Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to helping to pay for medical bills for pets whose owners cannot afford to pay for their emergency care.
